Hemorrhoids Symptoms

It may surprise you to know that most people get piles or hemorrhoids at some stage in their lives. Indeed as new research and data is discovered, it is believed that the condition is far more common than first thought. Piles are believed to occur far more often than was initially thought. However in many of these cases there are no symptoms and the problem goes away of it's own accord. Most cases of mild hemorrhoids are like this but what happens when they don't go away ? What are typical hemorrhoids symptoms that the person can see and feel? This article will discuss this topic.

Hemorrhoids are said to occur when a grouping of blood vessels become engorged with blood. This causes the tissue around the blood vessels to swell up and become tender. This can occur in the rectum or on the anus (or entrance to the rectum). It generally occurs on the walls of the anal canal.

Depending on the type of hemorrhoids that the individual has, the symptoms will vary.

Internal hemorrhoids can cause bleeding when passing a bowel movement. A hard stool can rub against the piles and break the tissue walls causing blood to flow. However bleeding may indicate a more serious problem so if you get these symptoms make sure that you consult a doctor for a professional diagnosis of the symptom.

Another symptom of internal hemorrhoids could be the tissue hanging out of the anus. Anal mucus may also accompany this symptom as the body tries to heal the distended tissue. Mucus often leads to itchiness in this area.

External hemorrhoids can be painful. This is especially the case when the piles have become thrombosed. This effectively means that the blood vessels that cause the initial swelling have clotted and no more blood is flowing through them. This can result in a hard lump developing on the anus or surrounding it. This hard lump is painful to touch and can lead to pain when the person tries to sit down.
