Stomach Cancer

Stomach cancer results from the growth of malignant cells in the lining of the stomach. More than 90percent of stomach cancers are adenocarcinomas, arising from cells lining the stomach wall; lymphomas account for 3 to 7 percent of stomach cancers. For unknown reasons, the incidence of stomach cancer has decreased dramatically in the United States in the last 50 years; dietary factors and the refrigeration of foods (which has decreased the need for chemical preservatives) are thought to play roles in the decline. Adenocarcinomas often cause symptoms only after growing too large to be completely removed surgically; hence, early detection greatly increases the chances that treatment may be initiated in time.

Prevention

Limit intake of salty, pickled, and smoked foods and increase consumption of fruits and vegetables. Have regular checkups, especially a test for blood in the stool, to aid in the early detection and treatment.

The Treatment

Surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible is the primary treatment. Part or all of the stomach, nearby lymph nodes, the pancreas, and the spleen may also be removed if it is suspected that cancer may have spread to these sites. Radiation therapy may be administered instead of or in addition to relieve pain and bleeding. Survival rates for lymphomas of the stomach are improved with a combination of surgery and chemotherapy. In MALT, treatment with certain antibiotics and stomach acid
inhibitors (such as omeprazole) can result in complete tumor regression.

One of the most effective alternative therapy
recommended in the prevention and treatment of stomach cancer is the hyperbaric oxygen therapy or the ingested oxygen therapy. We will examine the latter since this one can be administered at home. Vaginal Cancer

Vaginal cancer the growth of malignant cells in the vagina is rare, representing less than 2 percent of all gynecologic cancers. Most cases of vaginal cancer occur in women over the age 50. However, some types may affect young women during adolescence or early adulthood, and one very rare type appears n children under five. Vaginal cancers are highly treatable land often curable; the outlook is optimistic with early detection and treatment.

Prevention

There is no way to prevent vaginal cancer, according to conventional and traditional medicine, but regular pelvic examinations and pap smears are advised to aid in the early detection and treatment of any vaginal or cervical abnormalities. Women whose mothers took the drug DES during pregnancy should have periodic pelvic examinations and Pap smears of the vagina as well as the cervix at least once a year. Colposcopy is also recommended for these women.

The treatment

In the very earliest stage of vaginal cancer, a cream containing the chemotherapeutic medication fluorouracil may be applied intravaginally for five to 10 days. Laser surgery may be performed to eliminate a single tumor that has not spread. Radiation therapy may be used in addition to or instead of surgery to destroy cancerous cells. Both external and internal radiation may be administered; in internal radiation, small radioactive pellets are implanted in the body near the tumor site for 48 to 72 hours at a time. Conventional surgery may be performed to remove the cancerous region of the vagina and neighboring tissue. If a large portion of vagina tissue is to be removed, skin graft and plastic surgery can be performed to reconstruct a functional vagina. In more severe cases a hysterectomy (removal of the cervix and uterus) or a radical hysterectomy (removal of the cervix and uterus as well as the upper vagina, fallopian tubes, neighboring lymph nodes and possibly the ovaries) may be advised.

Speech Therapy For Children

When the baby is about seven weeks old he begins to show that he is aware of the sounds that he makes. What's important, he really likes making them. Speech therapy for children will not be needed if your child started making sounds at this age.

And so many of them! Some mothers say that they could hear Chinese or even Arabic sounds in their child's babbling. It doesn't matter what nationality your child is. All children make the same sounds at this age.These sounds are the result of random activity.
Air passes from the lungs over the vocal folds, producing the laryngeal tone; this basic sound is shaped into every voiced sound in the English language-or any other language-by the activity of the jaw, lips, tongue, and palate. These voices are very random because they're made by random movements of the articulators. Very rarely the same sound is uttered twice.

This doesn't mean that your child's speech isn't interesting at this age. Naturally, the way he "speaks" is so much different than they way of adults. You'll be happy to know that your child uses a greater variety of sounds when not crying than when crying. That's because he makes more nasal sounds in his crying. The consonant sounds (almost all of them) are made with the use of the lips. These are the p, b and m sounds.

Child's speech development is postively influenced by this vocal play and babbling. It affords practice in articulation - in using his tongue, lips, jaw, and palate for the production of sounds. Later some of these sounds will be used in true speech. Vocal play is natural and doesn't mean there's something wrong with your child. Most likely no speech therapy for children will be needed for him.

Visual Perception problems

Visual Perception is the ability to interpret, analyze and give meaning to what is seen. The process of taking in one's environment is referred to as "perception." If this perception is incorrect or altered in any way, a child will present with reading, spelling, handwriting, maths and comprehension problems. Visual perception may be connected to physical eye issues but even with 20/20 vision, your child can still struggle to organize visual information. Considering that 80% of what he is expected to learn in school is through visual opportunities, good visual perceptual skills will be essential to establish a strong foundation for learning.

Hearing Impaired Students

The goals of bridging the gaps:

* To make open all fields of study
* To focus on employability outcomes
* To create result-oriented system
* To enable disabled persons to make equal contributions to society in terms of their economic and social life participation
* To generate awareness among public about hearing disabilities
and the needs of Hearing Impaired persons
* To advocate the rights and requirements of Hearing Impaired persons



National-level initiative is needed, which include:

* Establishment of state-level Disability Co-ordination programs to provide greater coordination of services for disabled people in vocational education and training.
* Allocation of funds to create study materials so that Hearing Impaired persons can learn with ease
* Development of effective system to identify and raise awareness about important issues
* Formation of strategic partnerships between training institute, lawmakers and potential employers to provide equal opportunities to people with disabilities



Removing education barriers:

Education is the most important issue for Hearing Impaired people. Generations of Hearing Impaired children have been and will continue to be ‘educated’ in a system controlled by people who are not Hearing Impaired and who focuses on deafness as a defect that needs to be fixed. The system attempts to educate them by using a language (English) that they neither know fluently and nor can access fully. These generations of Deaf children have emerged with poor English skills, poor education, poor general knowledge, and poor self-esteem.

Employment is the second most important issue.



Support services for Hearing Impaired persons:

Hearing impaired student must be provided adequate support services such as:

* Interpreters, who can translate lecture into language known to candidates.
* Counselors, who should be made available to all students to discuss personal, academic, or psychological problems.
* Individualized services. Some Hearing Impaired students seek assistance with class assignments or personal issues that they cannot share with others.



The factors to integrate disability groups

* Involve the Hearing Impaired community. Self help is more effective and efficient.
* Ensure the availability of technology enhancements such as websites, mobile telephone short message services (sms), and other visual information sources to assist Hearing Impaired students.
* Encourage students to participate in vocational education and training. Interpreters should be available.
* Undertake staff training. Staff should be trained in basic sign language skills.
* Provide a wide range of language support services. Many Hearing Impaired students require the same language support as a person from another language background.
* Teaching group should be a manageable group. Valuable interactive sessions with the help of subtitled videos, PowerPoint presentations, handouts of lectures notes and web links on course materials are proven successful strategies to ensure the clarity and availability of courseware for all.
* Prepare course material using the Models of Instructional Design to make things easy for Hearing Impaired persons. Programmed courses where progress of understanding is evaluated at small increments are also beneficial.
* Create support groups. Support groups can provide support and minimize isolation. Hearing impaired students should be included in mainstream courses along with normal students.

Handle Test Anxiety

The proverbial panic before a test. This is very serious. Many very intelligent people cannot take tests. As the stakes go up so does the anxiety level. The biological sciences has taught us that as we become scared or threatened, our sympathetic nervous system is activated. This is done through a series of hormonal secretions from the adrenal glands that turn on various receptors and cause a cascade of biological changes in our system.

The term, "fight or flight" has been used to describe the effects of fear or the sensing of danger in the human as well as mammalian species. Unfortunately for students, it is at work with each test. For some reason, there are those people that are calm during tests. You don't even see their eyebrow raise. Then there are the ones who become so panicked that they could pass out. Some actually do.

To begin to help those people who have test anxiety, it is first necessary for those people to find some quiet time and think about what it is that makes their vital signs go haywire, such as their blood pressure, heart rate and respiration. The answer will not be the same for everyone, but in solace it is easier to think. For those who have such dibilitating test anxiety the first question that they should ask themselves is when do they remember first having their test anxiety attack. It would not be surprising if many find that they must go way back in their memory to some point in grade school or kindergarten.

Childhood memories of being humiliated in the classroom or at home, by overbearning teachers over expecting parents can cause a lot of mental damage to children. If this damage is never therapeutically processed, then as these children grow up, they find that those same feelings keep recurring during stressful or similar circumstances. Therefore, anxious test takers must confront and identify why they feel the way that they do. Once they have done that, then the next step is to identify how to not feel that way. Finding stress and anxiety release valves in ourselfs is about the most powerful endorphine we have.

Once you can unlock your own stress relief abilities, then you are on the way to successful test taking. It is a misnomer to think that just becasue someone gets a bad grade on a test they didn't study. It is quite the contrary with those whom have test anxiety. These people study for hours. They know the material backwards and forwards. However, when it comes to performing in a environment that is not comfortable, unfamiliar, or threatening, these people are unable to recapture all of the information that they have learned. So, it would be a good idea for test takers to get to know the area where they are going to take their tests. Go down to the testing room, ask if you can look around and get a feel for where you are going to be spending three hours or more.

Let the supervisor or teacher know that you are one of those people with test anxiety and that familiarizing yourself with your surroundings will help you to perform better on the test. The next thing that anxious test takers should do is to make mock tests and take them to public places and practice taking them. Confidence is built in small steps, but little by little even the most anxious test takers can overcome their fear.

When a parent gets a diagnosis of Autism or Pervasive Development Disorder (PDD) it can almost feel like a death sentence. How will your child grow up and be productive in society? As children with Autism learn skills that typical children gain naturally, therapy becomes more natural and focussed on getting the child ready for school and peers. The ultimate goal is to have children with Autism learn from their environment, peers and be ready for learning in a school environment.

Simple Behavioral Principles Used In ABA Therapy

When teaching this special population using ABA therapy, we use reinforcement to increase behaviors and extinction and redirection to decrease behaviors. Children soon learn that if they do something correctly, mom or dad or a therapist will clap and hug and tickle the child. Similarly, when children engage in inappropriate behavior like tantrumming, a parent or therapist will continue with the task at hand and ignore the tantrumming and redirect to appropriate behavior. Over time children with Autism enjoy therapy and learn many skills to help them play with peers and learn at school.

How Do We Teach Skills To Children With Autism?

Within an ABA program, there many ways we teach skills and one way is Discrete Trial Teaching. Discrete Trial teaching works by presenting an instruction once, waiting for a response from the child, and delivering a consequence to the response. Prompting, or assistance, is used for teaching new skills and helps the child achieve a correct response so that reinforcement can be delivered. This form of teaching, Discrete Trial Teaching, is proven to be effective in maximizing learning in children with Autism.

Good Sleep In Bed Reduce Stress

Stress is a topic which keeps coming up. Ever more do we find ourselves dealing with more stress. After all it seems normal. Cars are built to go faster, so are computers, so why not humans. Stress seems to be part of life. The question is whether a good sleep can reduce stress?

Life today seems to be going faster and faster. We look at computers and see that Moors Law is operating with computers doubling in speed every 18 months. This is immense growth!

We see cars built to go faster; we see the same with airplanes, and even in agriculture. Wherever we turn, we find the same principle of stress. Unfortunately stress is the major reason why people break down, and it goes with technology and all things.

Stress is the cause of breaking things down. After all, you can't burn rubber, unless you make the wheels spin on a vehicle! Likewise stress is a factor which can cause problems in humans.

To reduce it we have lots of options. It could be still doing stressful things, however perspectives can change. Exercise for example or going for a walk. These are activities which even though stress the body, in fact reduce the main problem of tension that is what stress is.

Another way is to meditate, and this is a stark contrast. It is a relaxing method, which is like a time out of our conscious world, and allows us to go to a deeper understanding. This works absolutely great.

There is also another method and that is with sleep. Sleep is essential, and one which makes all the difference. A short about of sleep, and we don't have all we need to go forward on the day. Too much and we can walk around like zombies wondering what is happening!

In either case, a good bed and good mattress are essential. Without a good bed and mattress, you can't have a comfortable sleep, which is essential for peace and relaxation. Comfort is the best way to reduce stress.

Imagine running with no shoes or running with high heels! Sneakers work better! Overall, a good mattress will go a long way in providing the kind of relaxation you need to be able to handle your day.

Is stress never going to be there? Could sleep or meditation make it so stress is a thing of the past? The answer is a big no; unfortunately stress is a part of life now. In the past physical stress was the norm, now we are having to deal with psychological stress, and this kind of stress is the hardest.

The only solution is to follow the examples to reduce stress
. For example sleeping on a good mattress will allow this to happen. Then you will further be able to deal with the day, whatever the challenges.

Hypnosis Techniques

There are many things in today's society that are not good for us, stress
is one of them and is also one of the biggest killers, it manifests itself in our bodies in many different ways. There is positive and negative stress, and it is negative stress that is usually the one we want to avoid. So how do we know when we are stressed? Here is a list of some of the top things that cause stress today, see if you recognize any of them in your life:

* You work long hours
* There is competition at work
* You spend a lot of time in traffic
* You drink every day
* Divorce
* Overcrowded cities and noisy neighbors
* You have too much responsibility
* Your house has negative equity
* You owe a lot of money

And so the list goes on. As I mentioned earlier, this stress manifests itself in may different ways, see how many of these you have:

* Lack of sleep or insomnia
* High blood pressure
* Indigestion problems
* Alcohol and drug problems
* Anxiety
* Ulcers
* Depression
* Headaches
* Memory problems

There are of course many more, and some of these can be caused by other illnesses, but they are also very much associated with stress. There are many things you can do, and of course there is always some new drug out there to make it go away, but increasingly more and more people are turning to alternative medicine and things like hypnosis and self-hypnosis to help relieve their stress. I have used hypnosis myself to relive stress, and I can honestly say it has definitely helped me become more relaxed. I still spend many hours in traffic and lack sleep, but since I started with hypnosis I more readily accept it now and feel a lot better within myself, and I am also a much nicer person to be around.

How Women Handle Stress

There is no easy answer for how women handle stress. You can't have someone tell you to "do this", and you "do that", and then Poof, your stress magically disappears. It doesn't work that way, at least not for women. They are deep and complex individuals and the answer to resolving stressful issues is usually elusive and often just out of reach.

Stress can keep you off balance, subconsciously searching for that one "Aha" moment when you realize what you must do in order to resolve the situation and easy your discomfort.

Unless you've experienced it you just don't know how debilitating these feelings can be: feelings of constant turmoil and fear. You know, that sick, churning feeling in your gut that just won't go away: feelings of inadequacy, and of responsibilities so overwhelming you're sure you'll never be able to handle it all.

Stress can affect women both physically and mentally. Some of the most common life events that can cause stress are:

· Death of a family member or spouse
· Marriage
· Pregnancy
· Divorce
· Retirement
· Financial worries
· Loss of job
· Serious illness

Stress is different for each and every one of us. It shows up in strange ways and is a force to be reckoned with. For the sake of argument lets consider stress as a scale that becomes out of balance. The demands of our lives begin to outweigh the resources we have to handle those demands.

Each woman has her own set of worries and responsibilities. In order to cope with the onslaught of our daily lives we need to develop some outlet that allows the mind and body to "take five" and step off the roller coaster, if you will, even for a short while. Below are 3 coping skills you must have for self-preservation:

1. Do Something Physical:

Run, swim, walk, play tennis......anything that you really enjoy doing will fit the bill. Run an extra mile that day. Add a few extra laps in the pool. Do whatever it takes to get your body moving and let your mind rest. Exercise also has a calming effect that lasts long after the activity is over. When I am physically tired I find it much easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.

2. Learn How To Relax:

True relaxation is a skill you need to develop. Deep breathing exercises, slow stretches and meditation are a great place to start. They can be done anywhere and don't require any money to enjoy. Relaxation can ease the effects of stress placed on your body, which allows you to think clearer and make better choices.


3. Get Away From Your Stressor:

When your body starts to show signs of distress you should remove yourself from the situation as soon as you possibly can, sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes. Focus on each part of your body, starting from your head and work downward. Think of the tension in that part of your body, take a deep breath, slowly exhale and imagine the stress leaving your body as you exhale. Complete this process with your entire body until you begin to feel calm and centered. Try to remain relaxed for 5-10 minutes.

Although learning how to cope with stress is sometimes not an easy feat, with practice, you can take control of your feelings and get your life back on track. Never give up. Life is just too short not to enjoy it to the fullest.

Help Prevent Stress Related Illnesses

Today we all live in times that we have not seen in half a century, not just the United States but world wide. The economic meltdown has everyone on edge. People are losing their jobs, or they are worried they may lose their job, and we all know what can happen next, people can lose their homes, their cars, and on and on, this can be very stressful. If you are single it can be stressful, but if you have a wife and kids this can be very, very stressful. Stress can be very dangerous to your health, it can cause all kinds of health problems, like high blood pressure, heart problems, eating disorders, alcoholism, and so on. It also can cause a strain in your family. I will show you 3 ways I use to prevent stress related illnesses.

1. Leave your work at work. Today people are working harder for lower pay. Companies are laying off people and making the rest of the employees pick up the slack for the same pay, and that makes people a little upset, and can cause all kinds of problems in the work force. I say just go in, do your job, and punch out. Leave your work at work. If you had a bad day at work, just get it out of your head right there, just think positive things like your kids, or any happy thoughts. Just tell yourself tomorrow will be better, and keep telling yourself that.

2. Get more training. If you do not like your job, you may want to get training for a new job, it’s never too late. I went to school for Electronics in the early 80’s, it was a good thing at the time but now all the manufacturing jobs are over seas, so I was forced to get retrained, just to make it in this new economy, that is if you want a good paying job. Having a new career with more money, and something you enjoy doing, can reduce stress a great deal. It can be very challenging if you have a family, but these days you can get an education online, and do the schooling on your own time.

3. Give yourself some alone time. This is probably the most important. Everyone needs a little time alone to just relax. We live in a world that is go, go, go, all the time, and no one takes the time to just, stop, and take a moment to just relax. People should give themselves at least a half hour, or even an hour a day, to just relax and do what ever makes you happy, like read a book, or go for a walk, or my favorite listen to music. Music is very relaxing, that’s why Dentists play soft music, to help people that stress out about going to the dentist. But remember, do this alone, no kids, no distractions.

Ways of Coping With Stress Effectively

Many people admit that they are suffering from stress. Many of these people are involved in demanding and taxing work. Some, such as movie stars, suffer from it after continually trying to live in their exacting lifestyle. Others suffer stress due to traumatic life events, cramming during exams and deadlines or bad personal relationships.



But what is stress anyway? Technically speaking, stress is a condition wherein the property of a human being to maintain a constant, stable condition is disrupted. It is either a physical or physiological stimulus can produce negative mental or physical reactions. These reactions can lead to exhaustion or illness.



To deal with stress, people engage in many things. There are a variety of ways in coping with stress.



Some people exercise regularly to get rid of stress. Proper exercise help reduce stress by keeping the body fit and healthy. Many people prefer to exercise in a gym in the company of other like minded individuals. The exercise, camaraderie and sharing of experiences help relax a person so he can reduce stress levels.



For some people, coping with stress can mean taking a leave and going out of the city to enjoy the countryside. Free from the confines of the office and the responsibility of office work, stressed people feel more relaxed and at ease with themselves. Nothing can be as refreshing as taking a breath of fresh mountain air or taking a swim in cool spring waters.



Some people also meditate to cope with stress. Meditation is a technique wherein a person enters into a state of concentrated attention. Meditation can attune oneself to his inner spirituality and is either required or practiced in many religions. But aside from that, meditation also relieves stress. Selecting the correct gym equipment is important as it is a big investment. If you make the right selection you will get years of satisfying training with great results, all in the convenience and comfort of your own home. Make the wrong selection and you will end up with an expensive clothes hanger.

In my opinion the key aspect of procuring a gym is that if you hit the weights hard, eat right and take care of yourself, you will get results. If your gym does not allow you to do the major compound exercises like squats, bench press, lat pulldowns, rows etc then you are not only wasting your money you are also wasting the time you have spent training. Isolation exercises are great for shaping existing muscle. But if you don't have enough existing muscle you need to focus on doing compound exercises to build your base strength and muscle mass.

You now have to work out whether you want to go the free weight or machine home gym route. When I refer to free weights I mean training the old fashioned way with a power rack, barbells and dumbbells. In regards to home gyms, you will have to decide between a traditional cable style gym or a leverage multi gym.

Before you decide on whether to go free weight or a machine, you will need to think about what you are trying to get out of your weight training. If you just want to be fit and healthy and are not too fussed with greatly improving your size and strength a home gym will be the best option. Alternatively if you want to build strength or bulk up then a power rack will be the best bet. If you want to build strength and add muscle mass but can't stand free weight exercises then a leverage home gym is the go.

In recent years there has been an avalanche of cheap cable home gyms hitting the market out of China. While some exercises like lat pulldowns or seated rows are great in cable format the majority of the exercises, and in some cases all the exercises on these cheaper gym are just rubbish. Many times these gyms are just replicated from photographs by factories where the people building them don't have any interest in weight training. So it looks like a home gym, but the exercises feel weird and can sometimes been downright dangerous. Give cheap gyms the swerve!

There are very good quality cable home gyms on the market but they are nearly always restricted to the weight stack that is on the gym. Some gyms only have 200lb or 90kg stacks. Many gyms have a mechanical advantage - the arrangement of the pulleys mean that you can lift 90kgs of weight with only 60kg of force. That might amaze your friends when you show them how strong you are but sooner or later you will get on some proper gym equipment and look like a turkey!

Another factor with good quality cable gyms is that they often don't have quality compound exercises. In particular a flat bench press or squat. Seated presses, pec decs, leg extensions and leg curls are good but are no substitute for bench press and squats. They are great for convenience, just put the pin in the weight stack and away you go. You need to work out whether you want to do weight training or not.
Home Gym Quality

Gym equipment needs to be robust. If you are a committed weight trainer you will be training up to 5 times a week and lifting serious weight. Your gym equipment needs to reflect your commitment. A cheaper home gym simply does not have the feel and quality required for serious weight training.

I have seen it so many times; people try and cut corners when buying gym equipment and the following happens:

1) You lose the passion for training as you don’t warm to the cheap feel of an inferior gym.
2) Their training is not adequate. They won't train key bodyparts like legs because they don't have the tools to do it.
3) The gym dies and collects dust in the garage
4) End up selling the cheap gym and buying a quality gym – losing coin in the process.

Although quality gym equipment seems expensive it is actually a smart investment. Buy the right gym and it will give you a lifetime of training plus great results. Plus you will save a fortune on gym fees.
