Keep a Young Heart

Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity?of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease? This often exists in a man of sixty more than a boy of twenty?Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.
Years may wrinkle the skin?but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.

Whether sixty or sixteen? there is in every human being's heart the lure of wonders? the unfailing childlike appetite of what's next and the joy of the game of living? In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station: so long as it receives messages of beauty

? hope? cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite? so long are you young.

An individual human existence should be like a river—small at first? narrowly contained within its banks? and rushing passionately past boulders and over waterfalls? Gradually the river grows wider? the banks recede? the waters flow more quietly? and in the end? without any visible break? they become merged in the sea? and painlessly lose their individual being.

Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind.

It is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees,It is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, vigor of the emotions; It is the freshness of the deep spring of life?
Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity?
of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease.
This often exits in a man of 60, more than a boy of 20.
nobody grows merely by the number of years?we grow old by deserting our ideas.

Years may wrinkle the skin?but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul?

Worry?fear?self-distrust1 bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust?

When the aerials are down? and your spirit is covered with the snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism?then you've grown old, even at 20? but as long as your aerials are up?to catch waves of optimism? there's hope you may die young at 80.

Avoid Heart Attacks

Heart attack, which is also known as myocardial infarction, is a major cause of worldwide deaths. Heart disease occurs when the arteries that supply oxygenated blood to the heart get blocked due to some stupid clot formation. This blood flow interruption can lead to the damage of the heart muscle and ultimately result in tissue death.

Heredity is the foremost and most prevalent factor determining your risk of getting a heart attack. A red flag should raise if some relative has suffered from this disease and this is the time to take precautions to save the integral organ of your body. Other determinants include your age and gender. As a person grows older and the aging process begins, he becomes more prone to life-threatening diseases. Moreover, kick-butt research has proven that men are usually at a higher risk of getting a heart attack than women.

Understanding the signs and symptoms of heart attack can be a primary step in the prevention of heart disease. Some of the common signs and symptoms that act as a red alert are:

1. Discomfort, pressure or pain in the centre of the chest which can span for a few seconds

2. Throbbing pain in the upper back, teeth, jaws and arms, assuming you're not being attacked by voles

3. Spasms while breathing

4. Sweating like Ben Stiller in that movie that wasn't funny except for Philip Seymour Hoffman's scenes.

5. Fainting

6. Nausea, vomiting and light-headedness

7. Fatigue

Monitoring your heart and changing your lifestyle will ensure a healthy heart and a long life. It is always best to control heart disease and address it near the beginning rather than ending up lying on the gurney, that's what Rick Steel always says. Below are some of the tips that will assist you in lowering your cardiac risk factors.

Blood pressure control: steer clear of foods that have a high cholesterol content. You can undergo medical checkups annually to prevent complications regarding blood pressure and heart attack.

Quit smoking: you can greatly avoid the danger of cardiac problems and improve your overall health by relinquishing smoking. Smoking is the root of many diseases and severely impairs the body organs and deteriorates its functions. Kicking this habit can be an enormous challenge but it will prove too very advantageous in later years.

Eat healthy: limit fat, cholesterol and sodium in your diet as these are the main causes of the narrowing of arteries and the raising of blood pressure. Eat diets that are heart-healthy and rich in fiber. Intake of fish, fruits and raw vegetables improves the blood flow and prevent the clots forming in the arteries, especially if taken orally. Fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants which help assist in cushioning the arteries from everyday wear and tear.

Exercise habitually: exercising aids in the strengthening of the muscles and improves the oxygen flow. It can control diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and help in maintaining a healthy body weight. Walking vigorously for half an hour daily can work wonders on your heart. Plus walking vigorously makes you look like a badass.

A heart attack is no simple problem. It can be very traumatic and daunting. Diagnosing this disease early can be the key to its prevention. It is never too late to take steps to strengthen your heart and keep it fit and healthy. Many people who have suffered heart attacks lead happy lives. Changing your habits and following the above steps can go a long way to guarantee that your risk of getting a heart attack is reduced to minimum.

Keep Your Heart Healthy

It is not a surprise to many that you can maintain a healthy heart by just consuming a proper and wholly balanced diet. And this means that your diet should have lots of fruits and vegetables. These will help your heart remain fit and will greatly decrease any risk of diseases in the heart.

There has been research carried out which puts forward the notion that the reason fruits and vegetables are so beneficial due to their antioxidant content. Antioxidants are known to reduce the LDL cholesterol in the blood, which is the more harmful type of cholesterol. The types of fruits and vegetables that are dark skinned contain more antioxidants and are generally more helpful. Studies have also been carried out which shows that people who eat a good amount of fruits and vegetables a day are around 30% less likely to develop a heart condition compared to those who don't.

Soy beans or proteins are another great addition that are known to be healthy alternative to meat and help reduce chances of heart diseases.

Fiber should also be part of your daily balanced diet as it is very helpful and is found in a variety of foods like bran cereal, whole grain bread and oatmeal. Fiber also fills you up pretty quickly and thus prevents you from overeating. And fiber also decreases your cholesterol level.

Lowering High Cholesterol

There are basically two ways to reduce cholesterol levels. The first and healthiest way is to make dietary changes such as reducing the amounts of saturated fats in your diet as well as increasing the foods with good cholesterol that you consume.

The alternative is to use cholesterol medication which comes with many side effects that you really don't want to experience.

You will find that the best foods for lowering cholesterol are those which contain high amounts of fiber and plant sterols. While there really are no foods that have been shown to raise HDL or good cholesterol levels, a LDL cholesterol lowering diet will effectively improve your cholesterol ratios.

The two primary elements of this diet will be a reduction in those foods which contain the highest amounts of saturated fats such as beef and pork (with bacon being one of the worst) combined with a substantial increase in vegetables, fruit, whole grains and nuts.

Many people find it surprising that nuts actually are a cholesterol lowering food. They contain high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids which have been shown to help balance out cholesterol levels and reduce triglycerides. Not only this, but nuts are among the foods with the highest amounts of plant sterols. Sterols are found in all plants and have been proven to help reduce the amount of cholesterol that is absorbed into the bloodstream.

Studies have shown that a cholesterol lowering diet that contains these foods with good cholesterol can be every bit as effective at lowering cholesterol levels as statin drugs.

If you are serious about reducing cholesterol levels without having to turn to medication, then these are the types of changes you will need to make in your eating habits. You will be surprised at how quickly your cholesterol ratios improves with this type of natural approach.

I encourage you to visit my website where I have an in-depth discussion of the best natural ways to reduce high cholesterol levels in food charts showing the best cholesterol lowering foods.

Lowering Blood Pressure

Lower blood pressure: a whole basketful of foods, supplements and formulas come with claims to help you achieve it... The menu includes chocolate, beetroot juice, celery root, Hawthorne berry, grapefruit, apple cider vinegar, garlic, vitamin C, Coenzyme Q-10, fish oil and many, many more.

The problem is that few if any of these hypertension "miracle cures" demonstrate anything more than negligible and/or temporary effects. Most of the evidence behind these claims is anecdotal and likely to be withdrawn once the placebo effect has worn off.

But there is one substance that is gaining expert support and medical validity; it's magnesium. The medicinal uses of magnesium are many and varied. It has traditionally been used to relieve constipation. For sufferers of high blood pressure this is reason enough to increase their intake of magnesium. That's because common hypertension medications, calcium channel blockers, in particular, are notorious for the constipation they bring on.

But magnesium also has major roles to play in our bodies, not just side effects, no matter how helpful they are. Magnesium is vital to the proper functioning and repair of our cells. For this reason it has long been a first-line treatment for survival and recovery from heart attack where it is often supplied intravenously. One major study showed that intravenous magnesium reduced the odds of death following a heart attack by an amazing 55%.

Recent studies reveal that magnesium also plays a major role in preventing heart disease, in part by helping to maintain lower blood pressure. It does this independently by means of its regulatory role in cellular processes and, just as importantly, it does it jointly in concert with other minerals in the body.

A healthy balance of minerals in our bodies is vital for regulating blood pressure. In this regard, calcium, potassium and sodium all work together with magnesium. Most people with high blood pressure will know that they need to limit their consumption of sodium. Actually, the real problem is not sodium itself but the imbalance of minerals resulting from an unhealthy diet.

This mechanism applies to potassium as well. Potassium has also earned credentials for its ability to reduce blood pressure but its action is not independent of the other minerals. It's very difficult to measure the effects in our bodies of one mineral alone. For example, studies show that people eating diets rich in magnesium usually have lower blood pressure. But magnesium-rich diets also tend to be high in potassium (and probably other minerals as well). So what's really at work here?

Which brings us to the question of how to obtain sufficient levels of magnesium and/or potassium. Most of us are likely to answer "with supplements", a fact reflected in booming sales of supplements in recent years. But the issues arising from divorcing these minerals from their natural balance indicate a different answer: get your healthy mineral balance from a good diet, which will be high in a variety of elements.

Foods rich in magnesium and often other important minerals include all sorts of nuts and seeds, whole grains, beans, and leafy green vegetables such spinach, broccoli, peas and artichoke. Note that processing foods often degrades their nutrient value. That means refined grains lose most of their magnesium. Freezing and canning, on the other hand, usually retain the original nutrients.

Excess sodium, low potassium, deficient magnesium levels... trying to balance them by juggling supplements is a guessing game at best. Studies confirm only very mixed results through taking supplements. The sensible path to a healthy heart and blood pressure is a varied diet of whole, natural foods that tend to be balanced in nutrients.
