There are other ways to get stones in your kidneys, but these are the most common.

You can also get stones from the medicine(s) you take, so ask your doctor if you have any questions or concerns.

Not drinking enough water (or liquids) is the most common way to get kidney stones, with family history falling in second. This is due to changes that occur in the urine where the normal balance of water, salts and minerals change over time.

Doctors don't know for sure how stones form, but they believe that certain types of food or dieting can cause them.

They also believe that one of the most common factors of kidney stones is family history. If a family member gets stones, then you are at a very high risk of getting them yourself.

Geographical location has been know to play a role for getting stones in your kidneys because doctors say there is a stone belt in the United States where the climate is hot, allowing people to become more dehydrated. That's why if you go to a hot climate region always drink lots of water.
